Na Maragan are
Liam
Cassidy and Ed Bradshaw.
Liam and Ed began to meet on
weekends in 1996 to play traditional Irish and Scottish
music (and to share their appreciation for single malt
Scotch and fine Scottish cuisine). And so Na Maragan was
born.
Liam Cassidy (Whistle, Harmonica, Melodian, Vocals)
Liam "borrowed" his first
harmonica from his father at the tender age of 12 or so, and
has burned through dozens of tin sandwiches since. He was
first drawn to Irish music through the influence of the
Clancy Brothers and Tommy Makem and introduced to the tin
whistle while working as a college intern at the Irish Arts
Centre in Manhattan in 1983. He has since been influenced by
many traditional musicians and singers from Scotland,
Ireland, Cape Breton and the United States. At some point he
became a "musical instrument magnet." After years of effort,
he's finally beginning to learn to play some of them.
Ed Bradshaw (Guitar, Great Highland Bagpipes, Scottish
Smallpipes, Backing Vocals)
Ed has been surrounded by music since a very early age.
Singing was the way his family passed the time while
traveling to the New Jersey shore from his native
Pennsylvania, "Oh Susanna!" still brings fond memories of
his youth. He began playing the guitar in 1993 and added the
Great Highland Bagpipe to the mix in 2001. His musical
style has been influenced by a wide variety of music, both
traditional and contemporary. If you listen close you
may here pieces of "Tannahill Weavers", "Beatles", or even
"Tom Waits" in his accompaniments.
